No New Year Without a New You!

We have got a lot to be thankful for in the outgoing year. The year has been particularly busy for me but I thought it wise to return here today to share my reflections about the old year and my expectations as we move into the new year. There has been quite a number of unpleasant stories in the course of the year. Abduction of Chibok girls and many others are among the statistics that has pushed terrorism and insurgency to an unprecedented high level. We still have our many battles with corruption, incompetent leadership at all levels, high unemployment rates, youth restiveness and many more. I can't promise that the story will be different in the coming year but what I can guarantee is that your own story can be different. A new YOU can definitely bring out a whole new YEAR for you. Irrespective of what is happening around you, there is hope for you. At least, our elders say that 'your morning starts when you wake up'. Here are few of my advice for you in the new year...

Are you real or fake? Is your outer person the same as your inner person? Is who you are the same as what you do or say? To grow your career to enviable heights, you must be authentic and this starts with knowing yourself because sooner or later people always spot the fakers. As you grow your career, you will always have to deal with people. Self-discovery and mastery is the foundation of people skills and your success story in this respect starts with convincing yourself that you don’t have all the answers. It’s important that you are honest with yourself. You need to be able to make a candid evaluation of yourself and your realities. Knowing this, you need to keep an open mind and be ready to tolerate from others, the diversity of their viewpoints and mental architectures about you and the way you work, whether it’s what you like to hear or not. Of course, this requires that you keep your ego in check and be more realistic about your problems. Then, you are able to get the coura...
